I bought my 01 Excursion V10 a few years ago at 52,000 miles. I thought it rode pretty good. It now has 146,000 miles. Last year I bought new tires for it and they walked be back to show me that it was in need of ball joints. That explained the shaking in the wheel....lol

I did some work for our local Ford dealership Thoroughbred Ford. They owed me about $700 on a P.O. for some work I did for them. I figured it would be a great time to get some work done. They agreed to let me use the $700 towards repairs of my truck and I pay the difference. They offered me $60 per hour labor and 10 percent over cost on parts. I knew I was in need of shocks so I ordered some Skyjacker Nitro shocks from my distributor. I dropped the truck off Monday morning and said "have at it." I talked to the guy that was going to be working on the truck and told him to call me if he saw anything that needed attention to or replaced. Man my truck needed work.

Final repairs were:

Replace all four shocks
Replace steering stabilizer
Replace upper and lower ball joints
Replace tie rod ends
Replace both hubs
Replace brakes on all four corners
Replace wheel bearings
Rotate tires
Alignment
Sh*t load of labor
I'm sure I'm forgetting something

Total cost to me was $1725. Actually $1025 out of pocket.

Later that day I was called to pick the truck up. Wow. I had no idea what replacing ball joints and shocks would do. I found myself easily doing 90 mph and not realizing it...lol Now it's got me wondering how much my wife's 00 Expedition with 96,000 miles will run me.

Interesting - I suspect the one I am going to look at with 169K miles will need some suspension work for sure...

I'm starting to get a shake in the rear end. I'm pretty sure it's due to the front tires being switched to the rear. Although they "say" they balanced them I think they were damaged from the bad ball joints. You can tell the insides are wore quite a bit more than normal. Monday I will have them rebalanced. Just hate to have to buy new tires

It is always something.

I hope to find a nice one. I need to slow down and take my time on it.
