The 2000 Excursion I am looking at has the standard mirrors and one is not working. Is it very hard to swap them out for the trailering mirrors?
Thanks,
D.

I figured there would be a how-to thread on here. I have found that for the newer ones. I don't care about adding turn signals, etc.,
Heck, I have not even bought an Excursion yet - but going to look at one today I hope.
Thanks,
D.

I had recently done mine. It does take some calm hands and patience. Roll down your windows so you can hold the old mirror when removing and hold the new one when installing. Best to have someone help you. I bought mine $180 off Ebay. Disconnect your battery so you don't fry anything by accident.
1. Remove the black cover behind the mirror with a body panel remover tool (large flathead screwdriver...basically).
2. Pry up the power window switch panel, disconnect, and remove.
3. Remove 2 screws on the door panel (one behind the power window panel, one behind the red light cover-pry off the red reflector cover).
4. Lift the door panel up and remove off. Disconnect the light to the red light.
5. Remove the rubber grommet and peel back sticky gasket? behind the mirror to expose bolts.
6. Disconnect the mirror wires and tape a long string/rope (approx. 3 ft.) to the end. I'll explain why later.
7. You'll need a long extension for a small rachet. Best to have a magnetic end so bolts do not fall inside the door. Carefully unbolt the mirror from the door. Make sure that the bolt does not fall into the door...hence the magnetic socket. Pull the mirror off along with the cord. Allow the string to come through the holes in the door, but keep the other end out...not go through. This is so that you can pull the connector to the new one through the same route and not have to fish it through like I did. Remove the tape off the connector.
8. Install the new mirror and carefully screw the nuts on.
9. Tape the string/rope onto the new connector and pull it through the door. Connect the new connector.
10. Assembly is the reverse of the removal.

In the year 200, as your thread was titled, there was no Excursion.
However, to answer your question, I changed mine on my 2001 and it wasn't too difficult. Just be sure to have wiring diagrams handy.
