I have a 01 with a V10 and 180k+ I have the stock tranny and she is going bad, I know Im very lucky to have gotten this far. Can I upgrade to the post 2004 tranny that came on the v10's or am I stuck with rebuilding what I have?

Good question. I assume you mean a 5-speed automatic.

One would think that an upgrade would require an entire different computer and perhaps a new powertrain harness. I think most Ford powertrain (engine/tranny) harnesses are separate from the main vehicle harness to accomodate optional engines/trannies. Such might be available from a salvage yard from a later Excursion. An aftermarket transmission builder might be your best source of info. There may not be much practical performance difference between the 4-spd vs the 5-spd.

You can also Google 4R100 and 5R100 transmissions for more info on these two. Let us know how you make out.
