Anyone heard of an Excursion catching fire from a short in the dashboard?

I'm a NEW Excursion owner as of friday night and am so excited. Did a little searching on the net and found this site and it already answered a bunch of my concerns about my 2001 Excursion Limited with 6.8l V10.
Tonight I was telling my sister I just got this Excursion and said someone she worked with had her 2001 Excursion catch fire last week, while parked in the parking lot at work. Fire dept. said it looked like it started in the dash.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I thought may one of the kids pushed in the cigarrette lighter?

I don't believe they have an exact reason for what started it.

Thanks,
NEW EXCURSION OWNER

Welcome Darren,

I think any thing is possible! The owner could have installed a radio or alarm or fog lights and wired it wrong or the wires got chaffed and shorted out. I don't think fires are the problem with these trucks, It's FORD killing them this April 2004! ! ! ! !

Welcome, Darren.

I agree with Scott. Almost anything could have started that fire. And it could have just as easily been a BMW or a Hyundai. They all have dashes with wires and other flammable stuff.

I've never heard of an X with a specific dash problem.

I'm glad you found us.

Welcome
as far as the fire, there are too many fuses and fusable links on almost any vehichle to worry about a fire.plus the fact that these trucks are not old enough for rotten wires.i agree with the guys.sounds like somebody wired in some lights or radio and didnt do it right.

I did have a wireing harness short out a few weeks ago. Shorted out the interior lights, the mirrors and all the windows. Dealer had the X 3 days! Took 8-10 hrs to find the short.
