Y2K X PSD 4x4, remote start (Viper) installed about 3 months ago, love it and no problems.... Today after a 20 minute ride I shut the truck off and returned about 10 minutes later, truck would not fire  , cranked like a champ but would not fire. Shut off and set alarm, no sucess, used the remote start just because I could not figure out the problem and BAM, truck fired! Had a couple of other stops to make and the problem stayed with me... I had 1/4 tank of gas, filled up (left truck running), stopped by a drive through for the lil'ones and had to shut her down (something about to much noise and couldn't hear me  Started up using the key 
Just went out and fired up again with key, no problem.... Any ideas??

I don't know about with an Excursion, but with our other truck, we had to disable the remote start. It would fire on its own. 
Then the alarm would start going off while driving and kill the engine. My 2 cents, go back to who installed it and let them fix the problem. Or did you do the install?

Logix,
I did take it back to where I got it done, problem is with the THEFT light on the dash of the truck.... If the light is flashing fast the truck will only start with the remote, if it is flashing normally the truck will start by key and remote... He told me this has happened in the past and the dealer replaces something (said what it was but I don't remember)... Will be visiting the dealer to see what needs to be done

Almost forgot... Dealer reprogrammed my keys (no charge  ) and no more problems with the remote start or key start

Had similar problem with my direct start remote starter... sometimes I am unable to start vehicle with the key but have no problem with the remote starter.... I think it is related to the PATS bypass.... I just ordered a new unit that simulates key without actually bypassing PATS ... hopefully that will solve problem |
