Hi. During a radiator swap I decided to change the starter solenoid mounted on the inner fender wall. The wire connected to the " I " terminal is broken at its opposite end. It looks as if the wire has been broken for some time (not a fresh break).

According to what I can see in the 73 shop manual, this wire is supposed to be connected to the ignition coil. However, it does not reach the coil. Upon inspecting the ignition coil it appears to have all its wires in place and intact. On the coil are the following: main coil to distributor spark wire, small black wire from coil to distributor to the distributor, red w/blue stripe wire pressed on which disappears into the wiring harness.

I don't think the red/blue wire connects to the " I " terminal (as that wire is black). The nearest portion of the wiring harness (which also has solenoid associated wires in it) does not have a broken black wire either. I even unrolled electrical tape six inches down the bundle just to make sure.

Question: if this wire is supposed to go to the coil, what is its function? What is the purpose of a connectionf from the " I " terminal of the solenoid to the coil? Noise suppression of the coil?

I do not have a schematic or wiring diagram, only the shop manuals which have no electrical schematics.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Anyone with a website which has a schematic or wiring diagram for a 73 will move to the top of my "all time cool people who helped me keep this thing running" list.

Thanks.
