Aaron,
The only full aftermarket exhaust for the Crown Vic that I can recall is produced by Borla.
However, why do you want a new exhaust? The exhaust on your '98 P71 is stainless steel and will last just about forever.
If you are just wanting a meaner sound, consider some Flowmasters, Dynomaxes, or other performance mufflers. You might also want to remove the rear resonators.
From a performance standpoint, the exhaust is not a restriction on the Vic/Grand Marquis. The restriction are the heads and headers.
Since you also have a '98, I would swap your heads for a set of ported and polished Ford Performance Improved heads. These heads come standard on the '01 and up Crown Vics and Grand Marquis. I believe Mustangs have had these heads since '98.
Right now, I am not aware of any performance headers for our cars. Most guys that have them have modified 4.6L Mustang headers for their application.
As for an air box, I would recommend getting the Marauder airbox and MAF. There is an article here on Superford about this. Once you change the MAF, you will need a custom chip and possibly colder plugs. Many members at www.crownvic.net and www.crownvic.us have purchased these parts along with a custom chip at:
http://www.reinhartautomotive.com/index2.ivnu
For around $500, this is the best bang for buck modification package you can do to your Vic.
If you look at the air box, you can see that there is no way to get cold air into the engine.
Some people have cut the snorkle off the stock air box and have ran a tube down under the front fender. Be careful not to get water in there.
Another alternative site for a different, possibly better intank is:
http://www.angryducktofuracing.com
Finally, if you want to go all out, check out Allen Engineering Developement. They have a bolt-on supercharger for our cars. However, I would be the ported and polished PI heads first.
Good luck.

Check out www.summitracing.com for a set of Flowmasters. They are certainly loud. Dynomax also makes a nice muffler that is just loud enough. You can also have the rear resonators removed.
Diablo chips were popular for a little while but I would spend the extra and have custom chip burned for your specific needs, gearing, perfomance mods, etc.
Check out:

or
www.fordchip.com
An aluminum intake would heat up after a while from being so close to the engine.
Really, cold air is not or air flow to the inake it not the major restriction on our cars. It is the heads and the headers.
I would get the Marauder airbox and MAF for increased airflow or check out:
http://www.angryducktofuracing.com
Their intakes are aluminum, I believe.
The stock exhaust is around 2 1/2 or 2 1/4 inches. I would do some searching on
www.crownvic.net in the 4.6L forum and 4.6L archives for more specific measurements.
Again, good luck.

Are the aforementioned Mustang headers modified at all? I have a source locally which may be able to provide shorties for my 94 GM LS. |
