Hello has anyone ever replaced the fuel line that goes from the gas tank starting from the drivers side rear wheel well towards the front of the engine. I would like to know if this is something that can be done with the vehicle up on jack stands and in my garage. The fuel line is leaking right before it goes into the rubber hose directly above the frame at the drivers side rear wheel well opening. I believe that it corroded as a result of the contact with the frame. I have purchased a new fuel line and it is about 7 feet long with quite a lot of bends and I believe that it is routed through the inside of the frame. Is there any way to cut out the corroded section and splice in a new piece, (with flared ends and fittings) or do I have to replace the entire length of fuel line? Are there any special tools needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

I got this from crownvic.net...hopefully it helps!
| Quote: | | I replaced the fuel return line from the engine to the pump in my '91 last year....those garter-spring connections can be a complete bitch to get off! Spray 'em with your favorite flavor of penetrating oil in advance. Then what I did was inserted the duckbill tool completely (the metal ones are 100% better than the plastic), then twisted the fuel line with a pair of pliers to make sure everything wasn't rusted together. After that, it was just a matter of pushing, pulling, twisting, grunting, and name-calling until the flex lines came off. |
