I have a rough but complete 1990 Crown Vic that has 5.0 non-H.O. with AOD and wish to use these to swap into another vehicle and keep the EFI also. However can't seem to get any info on using these motors for swap because all info found relates to the H.O. Mustang 5.0 and no one seems to know anything about the non-H.O. I know they are not as strong performers, but since mileage is a consideration for me, I think the non-H.O. should be be about right for my needs.
I have heard sketchy info indicating that wiring harnesses and firing orders are different between
H.O. and non-H.O., but nothing definitive. Anyone used the Crown Vic drivetrain and electronic engine mgmt systems in a swap, or am I on my own here? I am also told that Mustang uses a different and simpler wiring harness, but since I have no newer Mustangs, I don't know what the differences are there either... Anyone?? Thanks, Mike H

As I have had extensive seat time in thse cars, I would not bother using the non-HO engine and tranny, but sell it. The reason being, is that the HO 5.0 actually gets better gas mileage than the Non-HO(and more power), due to the severely detuned nature of the non-HO engine...Ford wimped it out way too much.

Yes it is a fact that the ho vs/ non-ho have different firing orders. The HO is by far the better engine to have( easier to get hipo parts ) the non-ho ( speed density type ) only has four wires to make it run, Simplistic in nature but lacking in performance and economy. It is very difficult to do upgrades to the non-ho speed density motor as no computer ajustments are availiable such as to compensate for bigger injectors or different cams. I would agree---sell it and get an HO for your future swaps.
