This is my EVERYDAY car  and i need it working or else im dead meat
Well heres the problem, woke up this morning and started up the 1997 Crown Victoria....pressed down on the brake pedal and TRIED to shift out of park....thats when it wouldn't shift.
I did the basics, checked all the fuses and under the hood too....removed all the crossovers under the hood hoping it would reset it. When i checked fuses under the dash...fuse #1 was burnt..so i replaced it with another 15 amp fuse and it popped...car wasn't even running when it popped.
Sister told me my rear brake lights dont light up when i depress the brake pedal. SO i have the under side all removed and look for any vacuum leaks etc etc...still nothing
If you know the problem i would be very grateful!

Both of your problems share one cause, because fuse #1 feeds the brake lamp circuit, and the brake shift interlock that lets the shifter out of park is told when the brake is pressed through that same circuit. With the fuse blown, the brake lights are dead and the car never hears you press the brake, so it stays locked in park. A fuse that blows with the car not even running means a short to ground on something that circuit feeds.
Do not keep feeding it fuses. Put a test light (or a 12 volt bulb) across the two terminals of the fuse socket instead. It will light bright while the short is there. Then:
1. Unplug the brake on/off switch at the brake pedal. If the light dims, the switch or its wiring is shorted.
2. If not, open the trunk and look at the rear lamp sockets and the wiring along the trunk floor and to any trailer hitch plug, which are the usual places these wires get pinched or corroded.
3. Wiggle the harness where it passes the doorsills and under the rear seat while watching the light.
When the light goes dim, you have found the branch with the short. Fix that and the new fuse will hold, the brake lights will come back, and the shifter will come out of park.
