Hi Folks! I have a 1996 ford f150, straight 6 cyl, 5 spd, fuel injected truck that I am having nightmares over. I just can\\'t seem to find the problem. I\\'ll try to keep this as brief as possible.
Problem=
*Truck died with my son coming home from college, I tried to restart to no avail.
*Pulled truck home and thought I would try to check the obvious first.
*Checked the safety switch behind the right kick panel, Was Okay.
*Checked power to the fuel pump, no power.
*Checked fuse under hood to the fuel pump, fuse blown, replaced.
*Checked power at fuel pump have power now.
*Had someone turn key on while I listened at the rear tank, fuel pump came on.
*Tried to restart wouldn\\'t start.
*Checked pressure at fuel rail, no gas came out or barely any.
*Removed fuel filter and black gunk came out the side next to the tank.
*Installed new filter.
*Recharged battery, Tried to start, Success! runs great.
*Turned key off and switched to front tank, tried to start, no success.

My question now, What would be the next step to fix front tank so it will run when switched?
The front tank has not been used in probably a couple of years, but is full of gas.

Good work getting it running on the rear tank. For the front, same logic: the front tank has its own pump, and the selector valve switches the supply and return between tanks. Switch to Front, key on, and listen at the front tank. No sound means check power at that pump's connector; power but no pump means the pump; pump running but no start means the selector valve isn't switching or the front pickup is blocked, possibly with the same black gunk you found in the filter.

Given that gunk, I'd expect the front tank has the same contamination, so plan on cleaning or replacing the front pump's sock at a minimum.
