I recently bought a \\'92 F150 reg. cab 4x4 with V8 5.0. I filled up the front (midship) tank and flipped the switch to Front, and it stalled. Runs fine on rear tank. 2 questions:
1. How to drain front tank?
2. How to diagnose problem?
I have not worked on fuel systems before, but would like to do the work myself.
Thanks.

For anyone with the same symptom: if it runs fine on the rear tank and stalls on the front, there are three common causes. The front tank's pump isn't running, the tank selector valve isn't switching over, or the front pump's pickup or sock is blocked.

Turn the key to Run with the switch on Front and listen at the front tank for the pump. If it's silent, check for power at the pump connector. If you have power and the pump runs, it's the selector valve or the pickup. As for draining it, get the tank as low as you can by driving on it once it works, or have a shop pump it out. Siphoning through the filler neck often won't get past the bends in the neck.
