This is supposedly the "good" header type 1990 manifolds on this Lincoln. Figure the aftermarket can improve on this no fear.

Pretty poor lookin' log type headers if you ask me. The sad thing is most Lincoln pages tell me the Y-pipe will bolt to neither truck 302 shorty headers or Mustang 5.0 litre headers. Guess I'll have to pick one set and get started. They'll need 02 p...

After twisting out about 10 or so bolts with a 10 mm socket, the pan drops and you get your hair washed in ATF. Some of the fluid goes into the drain pan, but most goes on you and the floor. Now you are left looking at the valve body and filter.

In this dandy shot you can see all three of the 8mm bolts holding the filter on and the dipstick still probing for ATF.

There's two of the filter bolts. Expect a second deluge of fluid when you remove the filter from the valve body. Your hair has been warned !

There's the third and last filter bolt coming off, here's comes some more ATF.

With the old filter out on the bench we can see the slight film built up on the filter housing and the dirty paper element through the slit to the left of my finger.

Make sure you put the new filter to valve body gasket on or you'll get no fluid suction. What you don't see, in the large round hole just above my finger is......

The fluid pickup seal, which is still stuck on the pickup snout. This is very common and should be watched for. Without the new one going on properly, again you'll have no fluid suction.

State of the trans was told by the fluid in the pan. Not bad for a used car with almost 100 k on it, I'm fairly happy. It should be stated that after the fluid and filter change the trans shifted noticeably better.

I always glue these gaskets onto the filter with a little Permatex UltraCopper, just to make sure they stay on during re-assembly.

Same story with the new pan gasket. Just to the pan, not to the trans as well ( or it'll be Hell on earth getting it off next time). Yes you are correct, that pan drain bolt wasn't there when I started, it's been added. Read up on that elsewhere on t...

Weeks before I planned on putting on the 3G 130 amp alternator I started soaking the bolt threads on the old 2G alternator and it's brackets.

As you can see from the pic the adjustment slot in the bracket is about 1" too low for the 3G alternator's bolt hole.

Apart from relieving my frustrations, beating on the bracket straightened it out and made it almost tall enough to accomodate the large case 3G 130 amp alternator. I had a $2.00 spare bracket, beat on yours at your own discretion.

After it's sound beating, the "modified" bracket now only requires an 1/8" clearance grinding(marked in white paint) to allow the use of it's adjustment slot with the 3G alternator.

Plenty of room for the 3G alternator's adjustment bolt to run in the newly modified slot in the bracket.
