my vic is hesitating at times & cutting off completely with little to no warning!

I am at a loss here with these new cars! On the dash there has been a number of different things that show up! The one that doesn't show up, is the check engine light! With it shutting down, that is the first one u would think comes on! Please help me out here! Someone must know the fix!?

Does the Check Engine Light come on when the car does the bulb test at start-up?
Is there a beep?(the car should beep if the CEL is out)
