We just bought this and it did not pass smog in Calif due to a computer issue. the smog person said to drive it bit. But we drove it for an hour to get it home. Any suggestions?
Would disconnecting the battery help? |

You can drive it for a week or year but if you don't meet certain parameters it won't work. I had to do this with a Honda Civic. I had to drive at 55mph for 3 minutes and coast down to 10mph without touching the brake or clutch. It had to be started warmed and cooled 5 times. To populate 11 different parameters. The smog guy didn't even know this. He said go drive it for a week also. You need to find the details exactly so you don't waste your time. Good luck... |

Disconnecting the battery would mean you have to start over and complete a "drive cycle".
It's over 100 miles and multiple start ups.
The "drive cycle" includes a certain distance has to be traveled but the car has to be started up multiple times during the "cycle" so it takes days or weeks if you don't drive much. |

You need to do 2 things.
Find out what the codes are if any, then erase them. Depending on what the codes are then move to step 2.
Go down to Orielly and pick up a bottle of CRC Guaranteed To Pass Emissions Test Formula - 12 Fl Oz. and dump that in a full tank of premium gas, then drive on that until it's almost out of gas. Fill her back up and drive for about 50-100 miles to get those Cats really HOT!! drive directly to the smog shop and don't turn off the car leave it on.
(it's important for the check engine light to stay off, because if it comes back on you'll have to repeat the whole thing over; so make sure you fix what ever is wrong with the computer first)
Forget about going to Autozone, because they no longer are allowed by law to lend you or read/erase the code for you. You have to buy the OBD2 scanner or see if one of your friends has one.
I have passed 3 times now using these 2 steps. |
