1966 body mystery

Someone please pull me from my confusion..... i have been scanning the interweb with the interest to purchase a mid-sixties Ranchero. In my searches I have found the 1966 Ranchero with BOTH the Falcon front end AND the Fairlane front end........ whats going on here?? Did Ford give us a choice in body styles?? I know the '67 was definitely Fairlane sheet metal, but I have found many advertised as1966 Ranchero's with the 1966 Fairlane grill and stacked lights for sale alongside the '66 with the single headlight Falcon front end.
