wife's car
fuel pump works sometimes and sometimes not
check engine light already on ( egr & diff ) codes only
check fuel cap light started coming on with this problem
checked fuse and relay for bad connections
moved wires i think to be to crank and temp sensors
moved shifter to neutral and back
checked fuel pump cut off switch in trunk ( not with volt meter )

It seems like you have to check the state of your car battery, or to more easily bring your wife's car to the authorized repair shop
