I bought an 88 about 3 months ago new water pump new alternator (after a fire) and new tires now the last two days I left work in the morning she shifts into second then down shifts but is stumbling as it shifts like it wants to stall. I was low on tranny fluid filled that and its still doing it, but here is the kicker it wont do it during the day, Is it cold? is it the tranny going? do I need to let my bronco warm up in the morning? Im stumped! Im gonna do a tune up this weekend. any ideas are appricated

Many times, what seems to be a tranny problem is actually an engine problem. However, I would try to find out why the fluid level was low, might have a leak somewhere. If your tranny has a problem going into reverse first thing in the mornig or when cold, then it might be going out. It could just be in need of a filter change, too.

Hello all

Similar problem here.
I shift into reverse and my car stalls, but when I shift into D, it does not stall. Also it does it when I shift into LOW(1st)gear.

Could it be that the transmition low/reverse bands have to be adjusted?
I have the repair manual for it and it shows how to adjust the low/reverse bands.

BTW, mine is a 95 XTL 5.0
