Hello, I'm new here. I've never had a ford and really liked the vics so I finally found one in really good condition, just had a concern about idle time. When I was looking for about 2 months not a lot of people advertised idle time on the listings, so when I looked at this one I checked it and it has 7,400 hours on 120,000 miles on a 2009. I bought it super cheap, but was concerned about the 33 miles per idle hour, but people say if treated right these motors can run high 300,000 miles? So does it really matter what the idle time is if they are expected to run high miles even with idle time? I know it has wear the engine in idle, I'm concerned about the overall life of the motor, it runs great, very smooth, but is it going to be dependable if it was well taken care of? What can I do to get the maximum life out of it? I may be over worrying, just wanted to get some opinions as to if this motor still has a lot of life? Thanks!

Since there was no factory idle meter before 2006, I wouldn't be concerned about it.
There are NYC taxis still in service with 300k miles and those things run pretty much 24 hours a day, being turned off to fill the tank and when the driver stops to eat.
Though it's true that Ford came up with the math to figure 33 miles/hr of idle time, I'd say it was better for the engine if they actually considered that when thinking about oil changes but who knows if they changed the oil based on that.

I have thought the same thing, some taxis run up into the 400,000's, and I also considered whether they changed the oil at idle hours or just miles, I don't know. I have been trying to find maintinance records, but I may have to purchase a carfax report. The motor has decent miles, I didn't know if the idle time (which is pretty high) decreased the life of the engine by a huge amount or not. What things can I do? It has brand new oil from when I bought it but I think I may change to a full synthetic, what other options would you guys suggest? Thank you

One thing to also take in to consideration Ford has been in the Taxi/Police Cruiser field longer than just about any other current company. This engine was designed to idle all the time they knew that would be one of the requirements when they designed these cars. Also with a 2009 you benefit from some of the lessons learned like a stand alone oil cooler, trans cooler, thicker radiator, etc... I definitely recommend Synthetic my Vic has done much better on it.
