of course I go for the harder possibilities first -yepper

spent about 3 hrs with the ABS & pulled abs light codes
changed backup lightbulbs & checked sockets/trailer wires/backup light wires ALL the way up
checked the MLPS continuity
checked the MLPS connector
pulled the O2 wire harness and checked it based on info from ford tech bulletin
chked dome light mount screws again ford tech b
pulled instrument cluster and chked PSOM
checked airbag deployment module
and then voila!
found the short - daytime/nightime rearview mirror is wired into the backup lights - blk/pur stripe wire
and is on the fuse #18 circuit

those of you find this by a search for blowing these fuses know that when you LOOSE the speedodometer (PSOM), you loose your tranny....at least you can get home in limp mode -slam shifting - yeah
little wire to the rearview mirror shorted and now SLAM SHIFT @&$^*!&@#(@^$)@&$
.......&#@^$(*@&#()_*
at least I learned something new about MY TRUCK!!!!!
