Background: 2002 Crown Vic, 4.6L. 65K miles. 84 year old Mother-in-law's car. City stop & go driving; church, grocery, bingo, cards w/other widows. Longest trip that it has been driven is 20 miles.

402 code. replaced EGR and EGR solenoid (two hose, two wire) mounted near EGR valve.


Other possible steps: clean MAF sensor, replace front O2 sensor.

Just a thought. I would disconnect the negative battery cable. This will reset to factory settings. Sounds like the CV was dogged around.
