I am working on a 2003 crown vic P71. It originally needed a fuel pump so i put a new one in. after i put that it in it took alot of cranking to start and when it did start and i put it in gear it didnt really want to move it seemed week and then died and wouldnt start again. The next day it wouldnt start without starting fluid, i let it idle for about an hour and it idled perfectly fine and revved up fine when not in gear. then when put in gear it dies. And then today it wouldnt start. it has three codes, P0171, P0174, and P2197. Any thoughts?

All 3 codes are for a lean condition. Look for a vacuum leak using a spray of water at idle. Check Scanner Danner on YouTube. The P2197 is an O2 sensor stuck lean. It is probably shorting or dieing.

Another problem we have is valve sticking not quite closed (usually exhaust) from carbon deposits. My '97 had a sticking valve on #7 and I took off the valve cover, removed the valve seal, and sprayed the valve stem with PB Blaster. (I was using compressed air to keep the valves closed and that's how I found the leak.) I replaced the seal with a new one, and my codes disappeared.)
