I have obtained a 1989 BroncoII, and drove it for a few days, and then whenever it got warmed up, it lost oil pressure and power- I had the oil pump replaced, it ran for a week, and then the same thing happened. It now has no oil pressure, and is very noisy, of course-I have been told to just replace the engine- is there anything else I can do?

the 2.9 I bet!!!!! I've yet to see one that runs well. The most reasonable explanation I've heard it that the pumps were weak causing the engines to wear and age quicker. Sorry I have no suggestions... already ran out of ideas with my friends b2 - actually I've always suspected the cat to be questionable, but replacing it is more than the truck is worth and it probably won't help anyway. I welcome you to read about my friend's woeful B2 here: http://www.thebronco.com/b2

Well thats nice to know a weak oil pump.

I had a 2.9L and the Rear Fuel Injector was a problem.

Well this makes me glad I put a 302 H.O. into it.

You could replace the Oil Pump again but something tells me it will happen again just like the Rear Fuel Injector problem I had.

Sorry, I guess I am no help.

If the motor has alot of miles on it, like over 150K, the main bearings may be so worn out that they're causing the noise/knocking. A new oil pump won't last very long, due to all of the metal shavings from the bearings which "corrupt" it, according to Clevite Mfg. (Melling oil pumps). The pick-up tube for the pump tends to get clogged with sludge, too, starving the pump. You can iether rebuild the motor, or put some Lucas oil in it and sell it fast!

i also recently bought a bronco II with a 2.9L mine is a 1988 with about 125K after reading this post i am a bit concerned. would i do good to start looking at prices to do an engine swap... i would rather do it at my convinence rather than once it dies. John you said you put a 302 in. was that a pretty easy swap? i have service records that say the tranny was rebuilt just over two years ago so it should be good for a long while but if i put a 302 in would it bolt on to the tranny in the same way. I have never personally preformed an engine swap but i have some buddies who have. anyways just had a couple of questions... any help would be great.
thanks guys
