Hello...

Have an '01 Excursion and need new tires. Was thinking of moving up to the 285s but am getting conflicting advice. Any advice would be appreciated. I am interested in ride quality and road manners as this is strictly for on-road, every day use.

Thanks in advance.

You would do well to get on the Excursion forum, really.

Not sure about the size bit I recently replaced my tires with Michelin LTX M/S D-rated. Quietest tires ever, IMO.

I have a 2000 Excursion XLT 4x4, and I upgraded to the 285/75R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires. These tires are 8 ply, and the original Firestone Steeltex A/T were 5 or 6 ply tires. It does not seem to ride much different than the OEM tires, and the speedometer has not been affected much if any. I like the way these tires look on the X, and they do not rub the fender wells. I am satisfied with the 285s, and they make the Excursion look tougher. A co-worker has 315 tires on his F-250, and he regrets buying them (they are too big, and rub the chasis). My gas mileage is about the same with 285s, but with the V-10 4x4 the best gas mileage I get is 14.5 mpg at 60 mph.
