i am hoping someone can help me ,

i recently recently stipped my engine down {351 windsor} to the block. i cleaned the heads, ported and polished them as well as the intake the intake and carburetor are new to the engine {factory replacements, but four barrel instead of two, these are not new parts} the intake was hot tanked and nothing done to the carb, so it is used{ i believe it is a 650 motocraft {holley}}
all installations went well, i torqued everything down, started the vehicle and it runs good, very well on idle, but after topping all fluids and proceeding to go for a trial run i found that in gear i can not generate power, second gear yes but nothing above as soon as i shift to third it goes to shit ,now the motor runs it just won't produce any power, just cruiz at idle. i am somewhat baffled
i checked on the net for torque specifactions , and found them all. 90 to 100 for the heads
23 to 25 for the intake, 17 to 23 for the rocker arms.the rockers according to the website said that i need not set the valve lash just torque, i am not sure about this though i believe that this could be were my problem lies this or a friend of mine tells me that it could be something called a power pick up in the carb. can any one help me

Ford190082,

It could very well be the power valve in the carb if it's a holley. Try the ether around the manifold and carb base trick first. You could also be sucking air @ high demand. I'd go ahead and get a carb kit anyway if I were you.

did you put a timing chain in it?some have differant key ways for timing advances and retard.
check for vacuum leaks(if you have to get a can of wd-40 and put the straw on and slowly spray it all around the base of the carb the intake what ever if the engine revs or smoothes out it's a vacuum leak.)
is it in time?i know people claim they can set it by ear but i always like the light.
adjustable valve train?enough preload on the lifters?
crap gears in the ass end?
sorry to hear your having probs hope i can help,
let me know how it turns out.
