help!
Lately by 1987 Bronco XLT witha 302 hasn't been running so weell. We replace thestarter yesterday, it had corrided because of water and now when i start it, it starts kind of loud and choking, it has stalled once, but if i give it gas it doesnt...(never used to do this). THen it runs alright until you slow down, then as you are starting to go it shakes really bad like the distrubutor is wet, it sounds like it is going to stall..
any ideas whats up? I think its the distrubutor but i'm not sure..
help please
thanks
:: Distributor, spark plugs and wires are all fine. We think its the starter she turns over but the starter whines like nothing you've EVER heard, I'm going to take it back tomorrow and then see how she goes

yo, have you checked the oil dipstick for water contamination yet?
do that before you start it again; and ck the distr again for moisture and any arcing tracks that oculd have occured while trying to start it.

i'd re-replace the starter & change the serpintine belt. ive replaced the starters in both my broncos. just did the 95's like a week ago. i think it hd a bad spot on it. evrytime it wouldnt turn over i had to pop the hood & hit the battery terminal with a hammer & it would fire right up. very strange. but anways, |

EVery once in a while, you may get a bad starter or alternator from a parts house, since most are just re-built. The starter should not make any noise, but if it does exchange it for another. It may be a good time to check your timing, and check for a bad spark plug or wire. Also, be sure to have the timing checked on a regular basis, because the belt/chain will stretch over time. Did I mention to check the timing?????? That sounds like your problem, assuming the TPS and IAC are good. |

Even though ford EFI can be a pain, regular tune ups should include checking all the plugs, wires, sensor pickups etc. Timming is crucial although ford makes you keep it at 10 btdc, make sure it's there. Checking the timming set is a bitch, but is cheaper than a new motor. Keep er alive!!! |
