one is 4 valves per cylinder and i bet you can guess what the 2 is

The most accepted meaning for 4v and 2v when discussing heads is the factory design for use with either a 2 or 4 barrel carburetor. The "V" is short for venturi. This is a big factor in how the heads were designed to flow air, as the 4V heads typically had larger ports and valve diameters.
