Just joined the forums.. My first question.
I want to change out the seats in my 81 Bronco. It currently has the low back buckets, and I want to go to hi-back buckets. I have searched all the local junk yards and there are no hi-back bronco seats available. What seats, if any, will work with the stock brackets? I don't mind if I have to modify the backets some. I am sure somebody has change the seats to something non-standard.
Thanks

Ran into a bronco owner at the boggs about a year ago and asked him about the seats in his. He said he pulled them from an aerostar van. |

OK, the seats from a Bronco II Eddie Bauer will work with some minor mods. The rails on both are 14inches across, but on the full size Bronco they are 13 from front bolt to back bolt on both drive and passenger sides. On the Bronco II the passenger side is 14 3/4 inches from front bolt to back bolt and on the drivers side its 13 3/4 inches. I used scrap metal from the Bronco II's mounting brackets, and cut 2 1/2 inch long strips with the holes in the proper place. I used Grade 8 bolts to mount the strip on the back hole and the normal back bolt through the hole in the back of the strip. The new seats are a lot nicer, and as a bonus they are power lumbar. Only cost me $50.00 for the pair too.
I looked at other Ford seats. The seats from the Aerostar van, Escort, Mustang, and some Probes are 14 inches from rail to rail. I am not sure which of the others would work with or without the mods I have done. Hope this helps others.
