66 Fairlane 500 W/ disc brakes

I just purchased a 66 Fairlane 500 Hardtop for my son. Car has a 289 2V W C4 trans. This car has manual front disc brakes. I haven't looked at the production date on the door yet. Could this car have come from the factory wit disc?

Welcome to the SuperFord forums...
It is possible that your 66 may have had factory disc brakes.
I believe that they were a special order option in 66.
It's also possible that the brakes may have been upgraded at some point.
If it has a factory setup, it would be using Kelsey-Hayes 4 piston calipers

and the hat/hub section of the rotor would be vented.

If the brakes are different than this they may be from a later model Fairlane or a Granada/Monarch.(A very popular upgrade choice)

I thought from your initial post that was the case, but wanted to make sure...
On the 67 GT/GTAs the front disc brakes were standard equipment. I'm not sure that the 66's were the same. On a standard 500 I'm fairly sure they would have to be a special order. Not necessarily factory installed as many dealerships in the 60's did option installs in house.
It is possible to contact Ford Motor Company's Customer Relationship Center and request they send you the "original specifications and optional equipment" for your vehicle at the time of manufacture.
I did the request for my Ranchero and got a letter back in a couple of weeks that gave me a breakdown of the VIN, the production date, and the applicable options list.
This is a free service and provides a solid starting point as to what the car had originally.

Thanks D.B. You have some great info. here. I will write Ford for the specs.
Turns out the disk and caliper arn't stock according to your info. provided. The rotor is solid (no vents) and the caliper is a single piston. The car has not been driven for awhile (not sure how long). We will be pulling rotors, pads, bearings etc. for inspection in the near future and hopefully be able to ID them at that point. I will post some pictures as we progress.

Thanks DB for the build sheet info. Finally got one one order today.

Turns out these disc brakes are from a 79 Granada. At least that is what is stamped on them. Brakes all check out and look like new. Someone had done a fresh brake job.
D.B. I also didn't have much luck with the build sheet. Turns out the drivers door has been replaced and the tag does not match the car and the vin. on the reg. doesn't work either. Oh well it's still a great project car. We must be lacking something in the numbers. Both door and title break it down to a 66' hardtop built in Kansas with a 289 2V. Only difference is the last 6 digits. Not sure what Ford's problem is?

John, to verify the VIN on the 66 look on the top of the structure the radiator mounts to. On the driver's side under the rubber hood seal... The VIN should be stamped into the top rail.
I don't know why Ford's customer relations group should have a problem giving you info on your 66, unless the database doesn't go back past 67. There is still some information that can be determined just by decoding the VIN...
