I have a '99 F-250 pwrstrk, I just put a 65 hp Super Chip in it, when I get a heavy load on it (25' gooseneck with about 5 ton) it makes a wierd noise from under the dash. It's not a chatter but it sounds like a chirping noise and levels out when the turbo catches up. It only does it when I am getting on it or hit a hill. It does it very faintly when I'm empty and hit a big hill. I am sure it has somthing to do with the chip since it didn't start doing it till i installed it. Is this normal or do i need to have it looked at? I'am having it worked on soon for other reasons, but I've heard that you need to take the chip out before you take it to the shop, I'm debating on wether to leave it in so they can hear it, and take it out before they work on it.
Sorry so long winded but it kind of worries me. Bryson. |

I don't claim to be an expert here, but I have a 7.3 PSD also and I believe that what you are encountering is turbo surge. There are a few companies out there (gail banks ?) that sell improved compressor wheels that they claim will eliminate this from happening. Appearantly, under heavy load for extended time periods IE pulling a trailer up a hill the turbo boost ebbs and flows somehow because of an imbalance between both sides of the turbo unit or something like that. Check on some of the other diesel forums and you will find better info than I am giving here. Good luck. |
