Hello all, Im having a problem with my Ford Crown Victoria 1998. I did something that made the passanger air conditioning not to blow air. The floor and top part(window) blows fine. I was playing under the steering wheel and there were some wires/tubes. I was hooking up the car with some neons for my son because his birthday is coming up and he would be driving this car on and off. He is a teenager and likes neons so i thought i would suprise him with some. Well, anyways i dont know if i pulled a wire or broke a tube on the steering wheel, near the pedals. Please help, the last thing i want to do is go to the dealer and get it checked because of my expenses. Thanks in advance. |

Dash vents dead while the floor and windshield still blow is almost always a mode problem, and on your 1998 the mode doors are moved by vacuum. Working under the steering column, it is easy to knock off a small vacuum hose or pull the bundle of vacuum lines off the back of the climate control panel. When a vacuum motor loses vacuum, its door springs back, and air goes to the windshield and floor instead of the dash.
Two things to look for:
1. If all the dash vents are dead: find the vacuum line bundle that plugs into the back of the climate control head (pull the panel out to see it) and the vacuum supply line that comes through the firewall, and push back on anything that came loose. Also look for a small black or colored hose hanging loose near where you worked. 2. If only the passenger side dash vents are dead and the center and driver vents still blow, a duct under the dash has come apart. Feel up behind the dash on the passenger side for a plastic duct that is out of its socket.
Either way, it should be a free fix once you find what got pulled.
