A co-worker stated his dads late 80's-early 90's Taurus would shut the engine OFF when the govenor hit 120. He also stated the power steering and brakes still worked, even though the engine was off. All he had to do was turn the key to off and then restart the car and it drove fine. I had to throw the BS flag on that one. If anything, the computer would cut off ignition to keep the car under the set speed. Engine run accessories would stop working after the engine was off, right? Unless Ford/Mercury made some kind of magic car that I'm not aware of, maybe someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!

What was prob happening was that when he hit the govenor the computer would act as if the car was off. This should only happen for a second or two untill the car got below a certain speed, my Durango would cut the gas for a split secong untill I was at a certain speed then get back on it--My foot was on the floor the entire time and it would keep going like that untill I let off. But no car should shut off and make you stop to restart. If it did the something is screwed up with his computer!

I'm familiar with the govenor cutting off the gas buthe swears it shut off the engine and retained the power steering. If it had electric power assist I could see it, but not the way he swears it happened.
