Repair auto dimming rearview mirror?

The auto-dimming rear view mirror in our 03 Excursion doesn't dim at all. The little LED at the lowest edge of the mirror lights up when I push the button.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix the thing without removing and replacing it?

the easiest thing to do and is not exspencieve is go to car-parts.com and replace it mine went bad too and i got one for 45.00 have fun and good luck
