I've got a 1998 P71 that other than a few minor issues, is in excellent shape. I payed just under $2000 for it, and it runs like a relatively new car. The only real problem i've come across has been with the instrument cluster/dashboard back lighting. sometimes while i'm driving the vehicle, i'll hit a bump or something and the all of the back lighting for the gauges, the climate controls, and the back lighting for the rear defroster button will go out. In past experiences with other vehicles i've worked on, similar problems have pointed to the headlight switch; i was just hoping to see if i can get a second opinion before i invest in a new headlight switch. The only other cause of this i could imagine would be a grounding issue. Has anyone else experienced this sort of problem with their Crown Victorias? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 97 P71 which was doing the same. It turned out to be the dimmer switch was causing the problem. I disassembled enough to spray electronics contact cleaner in it and solved that problem. Try it out
