Hello,
The issue:
I have a 1994 Crown Vic LX with a broken tranny crossmember on one end. Let me start by saying it's my son's car and he backed up over a tall curb and when the back wheel came down he bottomed out and damaged the bank 2 cat and the crossmember (that runs horizontal from frame rail to frame rail) and holds the rear of the tranny in place. This is the piece that broke. The welded piece on the frame rail is ok just the end of the tube was badly rusted and the bottoming out on the curb was enough to break it.
My questiond:
For those of you that have replace this...can I Replace this crossmember without seperating the exhaust? It runs above the exhaust pipes and I don't know if I can snake it through there. I was able to free up both bolts that hold it to the frame, and will put new bump stops in too. Just don't know if I can do it without messing with the exhaust or not. Any help is appreciated.
I can get a used one from a junkyard for $40-50 or a new one at the Ford dealer for about $90. I will most likely get the new one for the extra 50 bucks to ensure both ends are solid and not take a chance on used.
