It's been a year and a half now since i got my Grand Marquis '90. It finally came to the point where i had to overhaul the engine due to excessive blow-by.
Problem is this. The shop who did the job, also, somehow, burned the PCM. They did not disconnect the battery. They replaced the PCM (supposedly) from a surplus store here (again, supposedly form the same car year-model).
Symptom now is this. Will start on third crank. will idle, but will die down after a few minutes. But will run if I give it more gas. When running, it will die down when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear.
So i bought a code reader and Chilton repair book covering my model from states-side. Got it in three days. Code reader said MAP sensor (22-O).
Bought a new one (DY527), but same result. Code reader said same problem. Checked old one, found still ok as per Chilton. So got hold of a ford mechanic here and just took out the MAP sensor connector. Am able to use the car. High idling though, still can't use the A/C as it will die down.
Longer story short,...Chilton said that PCM shoud be re-programmed when replaced.
Does symptoms point to the PCM? Can a 1990 PCM be re-programmed?, and WHERE?
HELP PLEASE.
Thanks
