1996 F150 3 Screw Auto Hubs, Electronic 4x4 Shift 4x4 not engaging

Thats the details of the truck. Light on the dash goes on when I push 4x4 button but I get nothing engaged at the front wheels. I can here something in the dash click like its doing something. I haven't been able top get under there to look yet as we just got 2 feet of snow on Long Island! Any ideas what to look at first? Are there threads on here addressing this issue? Cant imagine I am the only one to have this problem! Any help greatly appreciated...its been a bad start to winter...the snow blower broke this morning too!
