I'm looking at buying a 94 CV with a little under 60k on it for $500. Has a few problems tho. The minor problems are 1) The wiper arms stop in the upright position instead of laid down were they are suppose to be when not in use. 2) A big "stain" on the floor in the back passenger side floor- looks like somone spilt a 2 litre bottle of pop there and left it. The guy tried to sop it up with towels when he found it but it keeps oosing back up.
The potentially major problem being that when it is cold ot starts a little hard but after it starts it'll idle fine but when you push down on the accelerator it spits & sputters & pops. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be. I'm thinking that if I can figure out the engine problem it would be a good buy because it has new brakes & tires on it and the int & ext, with some minor exceptions, are in pretty good shape. Thanks, Ray |

1) The wiper motor is probably out of sync. It can be removed and set back into sync, but the time needed to remove the motor and get it back into sync is more than just replacing the motor.
2) Had this problem with many cars and kids. You will need to completely remove the carpet and pads to sop up the liquids. Also, an extracting vacuum will work, but keep at it. When you think its finished, the stuff leaks back. What is happening is the liquid is collecting on the floor pan in that area, and soaking the carpet again.
3) The cold start sounds like a vacuum leak. Replace all vacuum lines in the engine.

JD, Would a vacuum leak cause it to pop spit & sputter when you step down on the accelerator then disapear after the car warms up? |
