My boyfriend recently acquired a 1993 full-size Bronco. It has the 351W in it with approx. 250K miles on it and an auto tranny.

My question is: when he is driving it there is sometimes a shudder to it. I find, when I am driving it, the shudder only happens at about 1800 RPMS. He finds that it happens more often when he is going down the road at 55 MPH (this does not ONLY happen at this speed but he seems to think it might have something to do with whatever the problem might be). He also swears it does NOT shudder when you put it in four wheel drive. The tranny shifts smoothy whenever I have driven it and the motor seems strong to me - no missing or anything like that. Is it possible that this shuddering (which will go away when you let off the gas and sometimes when you give it gas - sometimes it gets worse esp. when its colder outside) has something to do with that transfer case, as has been suggested by my boyfriend or is it something else?

Also, since I am new here and this is my first post, I wanna add that we are looking for a tailgate for the Bronco. Ours wont do anything but stay latched. Window does not roll down and the tailgate wont go down either. Its starting to rust out pretty good but if there is an "easy" fix to solve this problem, it would work in a pinch till we are able to find a suitable tailgate within our LOW price range.

As far at the shutter there could be a lot of things that cause it. I would just take it to a mechanic and have them check it out.

For the tailgate make sure you have power back there. I had to crawl in the back and take off the access panel and run a jumper wire to the motor just to get the window down. The rust can be fixed with a patch panel. Check out LMCtruck.com, they will send you a free catalog with a lot of good replacement parts, including a lower tailgate skin.
