I have the above mentioned SUV with a 2.8 Liter V-6 and a five speed Manual transmission. I hear I can take my 302 ci. V-8 from my 1981 T-Bird, make some changes like removing the Emissions equipment, etc and put it into the Bronco 2. Can anyone give me a lead to how to do this myself and properly? |

Do your research online carefully. I did the same with a 1982 S-10 by putting a Camero 305 V-8 in it. At first it seemed a nightmare until I found the correct website.
Research everything you can. Somebody out there does have a posting on what was involved, and the pitfalls that will crop up.

Hope you have a lot of cash and spare time, you'll need a new radiator, motor mounts, oil pan, front and rear ends, axle mods, at least a 2" body lift to give you space to work on the engine(3" is better so that you don't have to cut the heater box), ect.. ect... The engine will be the least expensive of the mod. Check out the Ranger Station and Duff for conversion parts and forums on how to do it. I've been told that a stick works ok, but if you have a C5 it isn't too strong so you will want to change to a C6 or another fullsize tranny. I had an 84 Bronco 2 that the P.O. had set up, as soon as you turned the ignition on the fuel pump would blow gas all over due to the P.O. not replacing the pump with a lower pressure one. It was a fun rig but had too many shade tree fixes to sort out and became too costly so I sold it. Anyways research 0online and add up the costs, a fullsize would probably be cheaper in the long run...
83 Bronco, 302 v-8, 4 barrel Carter, mild cam, headers, 4 speed stick, not a stock clutch, 4" rancho suspension lift, 35x12.50 B.F. Goodrich All Terrians, 2 3/4" exhaust, flowmaster ect..

Thnx for the info. I guess I will buy the full size I been looking at. It is a '79 with a 400ci for about $2800.00 and some minor repairs. |

Just try looking online first and then decide, my 88 bronco 2 is now a project, they are fun but under powered. 79 is an awesome truck and you'll probably get more enjoyment with the power and room. Small world though, I used to live in Colville in the late 80's, I worked at Sullivan Lake and drove the hour back and forth each day. Miss the place alot, good luck on whichever you do...
