A 4.6L 2V, 3V, or 4V will fit with the appropriate PCM and trans. Try to get a donor car so you can get all the parts you may need. A mustang also works good. Look at the 1999-2004 for your cars.
The 5.4L is taller, and will fit IF you either lower the engine in the cradle, or modify the hood. I have seen a 5.4L 4V in a 96 CVPI with a slightly raised hood, but the body work the guy did blended beautifully. And the hood was only about 1 1/2 inch taller.
Be sure to research everything you can about this before attempting. What seems like a simple project can lead to insanity and LOTS of money.
I've installed a Boss 302 in a VW Beetle with a Corvair trans, an Olds 455 in a VW Van, a 350 V-8 in a Vega, a 4.3L Chevy V-6 in a Dodge 1/2 Ton truck, and a 305 Camero V-8 in S-10 PU. Some seemed so easy to do, but cost big time.
