Hi everyone, Just got a 97 Mergury Marquis, 144k. LFand RF power window regulators are not working. I have removed the door panel to inspect. I have never done this type of repair before so am looking for pointers. I am fearful about drilling out the rivets on the glass. Also do you have to remove the window or can you tape it in the up position? Thanks

On my 1991 Lincoln TC exec...the Haynes shows removing the two screws/bolts holding the window onto the regulator frame...tap them up out of your way. It also mentions to drill out the original star ended rivets (usually 3)...to drop the motor. You'll have to find replacement threaded bolt/nuts to re-install the new motor(s)....I used locking washers as well.

I have done this on several different vehicles..82 crown vic, old honda civic (daughters), this TC and others...pretty similar in design & application.

When attaching the new regulator to the window PUT THE PLASTIC TO THE GLASS THEN THE METAL. I didn't do that when I changed my regulator and had the honor of going to the junkyard and paying $50 for another window glass. You can stick rubber shims in between the window and the window frame to keep the window up if you don not feel like replacing the regulator immediately.

Super reminder \\'95CrownVicowner\\'.... ....Sorry to hear of the poor result of your initial efforts...

I have had to make plenty of repeated trips to the bone-yard because I thought the re-cycled part was going to be the needed replacement....only to find that the connector mounted slightly differently, or the part it\\\\\\'s self fit the mounting space but the sensor part was too large or it\\'s extended was too long or not the same tip shape....weird since it came from the same \\\\\\'size\\\\\\' engine.....

Now I try to check the vehicle door post to check the year, model & engine to see if it matches my vehicle....

In fact I\\\\\\'ll be back to the bone-yard this weekend.....
