cruise control problem

when driving on highway, the cruise will engage and operate for about 2-10 miles then disengage. i won't work for maybe a day to 4 days then all of a sudden it works. any ideas on what to check? its a head scratcher. had the cruise speed control deactivation switch recall done.

although i haven't had the recall done yet my cruise is in operable too.
