Help!!! I have a 93 marquis, I really want horsepower, it the range of 300-350! I was thinking of rebuilding the motor with parts for example high compressed pistons, bigger throttle, cams, pulleys etc! Or all together engine swap, for like a 93 mustang motor ( 5.0)? I really am not sure I have the money just not sure how to go about it, im also rebuilding the transmission, i dont know if 3.74, or 4.10 gears would be better? Can anyone help me out? Give me some steps I can take, or anything that may help me! Thanx Buds!! |

Go check out some of the Mustang forums like All Ford Mustangs or corral.net to see what others have done to boost HP. Also, you can check www.crownvic.net or Modular Depot for specifics for the CV.
Almost anything for the CV will work for the GM.
Keep the Throttle body about 70mm to keep the stock injectors. Larger ones do require larger injectors. Better heads always work. You can get good factory heads for cheap on ebay if you know what you are looking for.
Shorty headers work good for the street with 2 1/2" exhaust. Keep the cats. Use stainless steel exhaust system to get a long life for the exhaust. If you want to push the HP up, go to long-tube headers. KOOKS is the only ones I've heard of that will fit the CV and GM, and for $1800 they do work. But lots use the shorty headers with the stock exhaust.
If you change the cam, don't go to high over the stock. If you go too high, your power band also goes up. And you will have little low end torque. You'll have to rev the engine to get any pulling power. I would stay in the 225-230 degree duration with 112-114 degree overlap, lifts below .550 "
If you use a stick shift, you can go up a little on the cam, but an auto won't handle it too well.
If your rear end is an 8.8", at least a 3.55 or 3.73 ring-pinion should be perfect.
Running a CV with a 306 CI, 70MM TB, 228 duration cam, shorty headers with 2 1/2" exhaust, 3.73 RE, and a 5-spd pulled 312 HP at the rear wheels on the dyno, and still got 25 MPG at 65 MPH. (Try putting a stick shift in a CV sometimes. Loads of fun!) With an auto trans, it should be the same.
One important thing most people forget. Air intake. Get a good Cold Air Intake and it will help.
Go check out American Muscle website, and the mentioned forums. There are people who have done this before. They can let you know what headaches they had, and sometimes how to avoid the headaches.
