What kind of stereo for 2002 Crown Vic?

My son recently bought himself a 2002 Crown Vic Sheriff Interceptor (I'm a very proud mom; he worked hard to pay for it himself. I hope he doesn't see this post!) that came with just a stock radio, no cd player. I would like to get him a new stereo/cd player for his birthday, but I understand that I might need to buy a certain kind that will fit in his vehicle without any problems.

We don't have a lot of money so I'm thinking something in the $100-$150 range. I know that's not much but it will suit his needs. I would prefer if we can basically just switch out the radios without any installation hassle; that's why I want to buy one that specifically fits his vehicle. Any help or advice you can give me would be very appreciated! I am wondering what type to buy and where I can buy it. Thanks so much.

If all else fails to satisfy you....Get a returnable/refundable gift card...if possible....(in case he doesn't like the store your purchase the card @)...

A gift card will give him time to research his vehicle needs &/or modifications w/o the panic rush to meet some sort of TIME factor....

You're best bet is to go to www.Crutchfield.com for aftermarket radios, speakers, and amps. They include all installation notes and diagrams you need to remove/install parts. The prices are not bad, and usually are lower than most big box stores. I believe that purchases over $125.00 have free shipping.

I have bought several items from them over the years (for my own vehicles and friends), and have always been most satisfied with the results.
