Sounds like your on the right path...switch & lock....why not just replace the whole ignition 'lock' mechanism...?

I have not personally replaced an ignition "lock/switch' on any recent crown vics...but I have on a few others...1980 Jeep, late 1970's crown vic & late 1980's Pontiac Phoenix....

If you don't have all the tools to work on the steering column ....most national parts stores have a tools 'usage' program....just a tool $deposit to ensure it's return to the store...

What's your vehicle model...? engine...? tranny..?.....that's great performance on the motor-N-tranny!!!

What type of service for the tranny...? What's the tranny model/code...?

Sounds like the ignition lock pin broke or is damaged. You may need to replace the lock assembly. Get a copy of the Haynes manual for the car, and follow the directions. It's not as hard as it seems.

If you are using Rotella as oil for your engine, stop. Rotella is used in diesel engines and not formulated for gasoline engines. I found that out the hard way. Too much damage done to another engine to rebuild it. I was forced to replace the shortblock.
