Got a 1996 F150, converted auto locking hubs to Mile Marker Manual hubs. I did this last year at this time and made sure I cleaned and repacked all the bearings. Now I am getting a squeaking noise. Sounds almost like the noise your finger makes when you run it around the rim of a wine glass. It doesnt seem to change much with speed or even going in reverse. When I took it apart to look the bearings themselves look ok. The back of the inner bearing looks like it could possibly have been spinning on the spindle and making noise. It looks like it could have been getting over heated. I never thought about this before but is the inner section (ring) of a wheel bearing supposed to stay in stationary on the spindle? Could I have had the bearings too tight/loose? Take a look at the pictures and shoot me some thought if you can. Thanks
Also, anyone have a better seal than stock ones for the rolling axle seal on the back of the hub? This was just replaced last year and broke after about 3 months. The circled one in this picture:
Turns out I had bad bearings. Replaced bearings, hubs, all new seals and everything is good. Will see how long it lasts this time. FYI, the guys at broncograveyard were a great help and have everything as a set to get the job done!
