1994 Grand Marquis - no start need Help!!!

I am new to the forum and I really could use some help. I have a no start problem that has me baffled. 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis quit running. turn the key and nothing, battery is fully charged. power windows and locks work but brake lites and turn signals do not. I have checked all fuses and all are good. I have checked the neutral safety switch and that is good. the wiring to the starter is good. I have power to the ignition switch but no power out to the starter wire (white and pink). I can run a hot lead to the starter wire and the engine will start but will only run on battery and still no brake, turn lamps. I replaced the ignition switch and still no power to the starter wire. I also have tried a replacement ECM that matches my vehicle code.

Hey 'bozwally'....maybe no relationship to your issue or your electrical testing/tracking...but on my
1991 Lincoln TC...4.6 L....some crank...no start issues...increasingly got worse...

Finally, crank..no start...period... I had been pointed to the TPS (throttle position sensor) prior to learning how to pull the OBD1 codes...

I post that episode on this forum...you can check that for more details...but the TPS can cause all of the issues you mention....& more....!!!!

Have you checked your OBD2 codes yet...?

After replacing my TPS w/throttle body from the bone yard... The crank..no start issue(s) went away & several other OBD1 codes that the CPM thought were faulty...but NOT....!!!

I decided to use a bone yard solution because I found out that Ford used "Locttie" on the two simple Phillips #2 headed screws...into aluminum....!!!! You can't get them out generally...result in the screw heads being stripped....possibly messing up the aluminum throttle body where the TPS goes if you "destroy the TPS" trying to remove it....

If you got power to the ignition switch, but none out to the starter, then I would say the switch went bad. Since the brake lights and turn signals do not work, it seems the problem is electrical (wiring or switch) in the column. Try replacing the turn signal. It's about $100 new. If I recall, the power from the ignition switch also flows through it. But try the bone yards first. It could be the ignition switch contacts or turn signal contacts.

Thanks for your imput Wizzard 1222 and Jdmeaux. I don't think its the throttle position sensor as I can jump the ignition switch and the car will run and idle fine. I also checked the turn signal switch, wired direct with power and it works. I did replace the ignition switch but still no power to starter jump wire. it is almost seems like there is another circuit in the ignition start system that is open and not allowing power to go to the starter wire but I cannot find it on any wire diagrams. still puzzled.....

When I was having the TPS issues...I could us ether starter fluid that would get past the throttle body butterfly valve & start the engine for a while...then it would become more difficult to use this process...

The engine would run fine after the difficult start...

The OBD1 code gave several 'positive FALSE codes...including the fuel relay circuit & fuel pump relay...

After getting the bone yard throttle body w/used TPS cleaned & installed....started immediately...ran/run fine...


Then checked the OBD1 codes again....NO fuel relay circut or fuel pump codes....!!!

I would still pull the OBD2 codes to see what the computer 'senses' as issues....!!!

Im having the same issue with my 2008 P71 but it only happened twice. My ignition switch is loose and Im going to try that since I checked all the electrical connectors. There is no check engine light on my car, nor any codes. Hope this helps.

Thanks again for the input from Wizzard1222 and Prowl. I checked the TPS and it is ok. I checked the CPS and it is ok. It will start and run if I jump across the back of the switch but it is only running on battery power and no brake or turn lights. I checked and all 3 power leads to the ignition switch are working. still baffled.
