I have a 2000 crown vic police interceptor, when i go any speed under about 55mph it jerks back and forth almost like speeding up and slowing down constantly back and forth. Any suggestions on what this could be would sure help out alot, im no machanic by any means but love to learn anything about anything. Also my transmission doesnt want to shift properly some of the time, any help would be greatly appreciated. I think that maybe it's just the transmission and i need a new one all toghether to fix both problems, but im not sure. Any thoughts????

Sounds like your have an OD slipping issue....that is the OD (4th gear) is not working properly and is being driven in "manual mode" of 1-2-3 gears only.

My 1991 Lincoln TC w/AOD has the OD slipping issue...it burnt out when the transmission TV cable did not regulate the fluid pressure...

I can drive reasonably in the 'lower D'....mode....That get me 1-2-3 automatic but NO OVERDRIVE...
It behave just as you describe...surging & pulling back when greater than 55 mph.

That's because the transmission would like to go into OD but can not....I have selected 'lower D'

Your AOD-E transmission is probably acting the same was as described above.

Hope this is helpful....

I had this very issues on the came car when i bought mine same year aswell. It started to feel like this and i thought it to be a transmission issue and never really had it diagnosed as i realized if i turned off overdrive it would work properly. However i was seriously wrong. no offence but this is more than likely just the start of your problems. to fix this i decided to go a little bit shorter route than actually pull the tranny apart to fix it. i went and bought a different tranny from a junkyard. If you have time look on the drivers side of the engine and there should be a sticker/stamp and it should end with an AA AB AC or AD could you please inform me which yours is. mine was an AA (which is also for your information only built until i believe march of 2000, the tranny not the car) and everyone i know that has had one has needed a rebuild or swap. i merely swapped instead of rebuilding cause its my daily and take it from me these average about 12mpg no o/d on the highway at 65.
