1992 F150, doesn\\'t run on front fuel tank

I recently bought a \\'92 F150 reg. cab 4x4 with V8 5.0. I filled up the front (midship) tank and flipped the switch to Front, and it stalled. Runs fine on rear tank. 2 questions:
1. How to drain front tank?
2. How to diagnose problem?
I have not worked on fuel systems before, but would like to do the work myself.
